28 August 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The National Nutrition Council X welcomed two on-the-job trainees from Central Mindanao University last 23 August 2021.
Ms. Keishe Jan T. Aban and Ms. Lorry Jane G. Rumbines, both senior BS Nutrition and Dietetics students, will undergo 300 hours of Public Health Nutrition (PHN) practicum to apply principles and theories on food and nutrition in a community setting. The internship is expected to last until 13 October 2021.
Due to the pandemic setting, activities and other coordination measures will be held virtually.
Both interns will experience the actual nutrition program management cycle through involvement in NNC X’s programs, and barangay-level engagement as well. Various online platforms will be maximized for the interns to be engaged fully in PHN.
The course aims for the students to gain knowledge, develop positive attitudes and skills in applying theories into practical situations in managing community-based nutrition programs, projects and activities within the framework of the local nutrition and development plan.
This is NNC X’s 6th year of accommodating the community nutrition phase of select CMU interns. The agency remains committed to provide a good training ground for future public health nutritionist-dietitians who will help champion nutrition and related advocacies, despite the current challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
