31 August 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – On 27 August 2021, the National Nutrition Council X conducted a virtual training on Feature Article Writing. The training was held to capacitate NNC X staff; interested nutrition workers from different localities were also invited to join.

The training was facilitated by Mr. Edgardo “Gardee” U. Pacalioga, a member of NNC X’s media network and a freelance writer/editor.

The training focused on how to write a feature article, stressing the difference between writing a news story and a feature article. The key to writing an effective feature article is to focus it on human interest, Mr. Pacalioga said. Creating an emotional connection will draw readers in and keep them engaged in the feature article story.

After the lecture, participants were asked to write and submit a feature article about the importance of breastfeeding in the first 1000 days of life to apply the learnings from the training. Such outputs will be reviewed and critiqued by the facilitator.
