30 September 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region X conducted its regular monitoring in one of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations in the region, namely, Radyo Kalilang DXNN 104.3 FM at Bus Terminal, Kalilangan, Bukidnon on 23 September 2021. Nutrition Officer I Vazamija Therese A. Villasi facilitated the monitoring.
The radio station was off-air since August 2019 due to the damaged transmitter booster, corroded antenna and loose transmission (cable wire) line. Thus, there is a need to replace the damaged equipment. In addition, the walls of the radio station were damaged due to the earthquake that happened in 2017, has not yet been repaired as of this writing. The damaged transmitter was brought to Dumaguete City for repair on 13 July 2020.
The delay of repair and shipment of the transmitter booster were due to the restricted movements imposed by quarantine classifications, increased COVID-19 cases in Dumaguete City, and the required travel protocols such as COVID-19 testing, which would incur additional cost for the technician and his crew. The Local Government Unit of Kalilangan through Mayor Omaradji C. Pizarro committed to explore means to shoulder such expenses.
Radyo Kalilang resumed to air its programs last 27 July 2021. Station equipment such as the audio mixer, microphones, speakers, CD player, external hard drive, computer with monitor, FM stereo radio monitor, printer, headphones are functional and are being used in the station. Currently, Radyo Kalilang is being manned by Station Manager Roger P. Palma and Technician Reches P. Fiola. According to Technician Fiola, the hiring of additional staff and computer repair will be included in the 2022 LGU budget.
As a result of the restrictions of community quarantine and increasing cases of COVID-19, the station was not able to conduct Community Radio Council (CRC) meeting and programming last August 2021.
NNC X adviced Radyo Kalilang to explore the use of online platforms to re-organize the CRC members as well as plan the program schedule. Moreover, NNC X will continue to monitor and provide assistance so the radio station can fulfill its duties of disseminating correct and updated nutrition messages over the municipality of Kalilangan and its nearby areas.
