24 October 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The Northern Mindanao Regional Bantay Asin Task Force (RBATF) convened its second semester meeting last 22 October 2021 via Zoom. The National Nutrition Council (NNC) X facilitated the conduct of the meeting, which was presided over by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Gladys Mae S. Fernandez. A total of 17 RBATF X members attended the meeting.
Meeting highlights include the presentation of the revised promotional video on Iodized Salt, 2021 1st First and Second Semester Salt Monitoring Results, and 2021 2nd Semester Salt Monitoring Updates.
Nutrition Officer (NO) I Liezel Joy D. Reyes presented the promotional video which was produced by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) X. Although, the video needs minor edits but the body already approved it and requested the Secretariat to incorporate the comments.
NO I Reyes also presented the results of the 1st Semester Salt Monitoring conducted last 23 and 25 March 2021 in Ozamiz City and Malaybalay City, respectively. Subsequently, NO I Reyes shared the findings and updates of the 2nd Semester Salt Monitoring conducted last 20 to 21 October 2021 in Iligan City, Tubod and Lala, Lanao del Norte, respectively.
The monitoring results for both the 1st and 2nd Semester revealed that most of the salt samples were not compliant to Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) required standard of iodine content of 30-70 parts per million (ppm). Thus, the task force agreed to intensify information dissemination campaign regarding the proper handling and storage of iodized salt and intensify the campaign on producing, selling and consuming adequately iodized salt.
