2021 RNAC Awardees Decreasing ST Prev27 November 2021, Cagayan de Oro City – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) X conferred a special award to 40 local government units (LGU). These LGUs consistently decreased their stunting prevalence among 0-59 months old children in their locality. The award was based on the Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus reports submitted to the regional office for the year 2018-2020.

This year is the third time that the NNC X recognizes the LGUs for their nutrition efforts which resulted in the reduction of stunting prevalence. Stunting or low height-for-age is a chronic form of malnutrition. It is an impaired growth and development resulting from poor nutrition, inadequate psychosocial stimulation, and repeated infection.

The third-, second- and first-time awardees were commended accordingly.

A total of 13 LGUs were given a Plaque of Commendation for being third-time awardees. These are the LGUs of:

These LGUs were recognized during the 2021 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) that was held last 18 November 2021 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City and was streamed via Zoom and Facebook Live.

NNC X congratulated the aforementioned LGUs which contributed to the reduction of stunting in Northern Mindanao from 8.2% in 2018 to 7.6% in 2020. Moreover, NNC X hopes that with unified efforts as #OneRegioninNutrition, stunting and all forms of malnutrition will be reduced and eradicated. (NO II Arlie Joy O. Damiles)
