Years of perseverance, hard work and commitment yielded City Nutrition Program Coordinator (CNPC) Sherill Faith P. Española of Cagayan de Oro City, the 2019 Local Nutrition Program Coordinator of the Year Region X award. The award was turned over to CNPC Española during the 2021 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) held last 18 November 2021 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
CNPC Española has been serving the City of Cagayan de Oro for five (5) years as CNPC. Over the years, CNPC Española had shown her desire, eagerness and keenness in her work. These core values led her to becoming the very first Outstanding Local Nutrition Program Coordinator in Northern Mindanao.
Driven with passion, enthusiasm and the continuous pursuit in improving the overall health and nutrition status of every Kagayanon, CNPC Española goes above and beyond what is expected of her as a public servant. This is evident in her various accomplishments in the implementation of the nutrition program, and the promotion of health and nutrition in both public and private sectors.
CNPC Española is the focal person for planning and policy-related concerns in the City Nutrition Office. As such, her expertise in program management led to the achievement of more than the targeted programs, projects and activities (PPA) in the City Nutrition Action Plan. She also served as facilitator to various activities such as trainings, lectures and advocacy meetings on nutrition-related programs, especially in her assigned barangays.
Further, CNPC Española shared her expertise by assisting the nine (9) barangays assigned to her in the formulation of their Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP); as a result, all of these barangays have approved BNAP with fund allocation. She also capacitated the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) under her watch by providing technical assistance and conducting monitoring of the individual BNS accomplishment reports. These and other forms of support that she had extended to the BNSs were not put in vain, as she produced three (3) city outstanding BNSs, in which two (2) were Regional Outstanding BNS (ROBNS) finalist and one (1) was hailed as the 2018 ROBNS and was a finalist at the national level.
Moreover, CNPC Española conducts lectures at hospitals, specifically on Executive Order 51 (EO 51) or the Milk Code and RA 10028 also known as the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009; this is in line with her advocacy to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.
The journey towards the improvement of the nutritional well-being of Filipinos may be long and bumpy, but with nutrition workers like CNPC Española, who goes beyond the duties expected from her, we are assured that we will arrive in our destination which is ending all forms of malnutrition. Kudos CNPC Española! Continue to be an efficient and effective nutrition prime mover! (NO I Liezel Joy D. Reyes)
