3 December 2014 – The City Nutrition Committee (CNC) of Valencia conducted Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) Forum with technical support from the National Nutrition Council X and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The NiE Forum was graced by City Mayor Azucena P. Huervas, Vice Mayor Rolando Lavina and City Councilor and Committee on Health Chairperson Dr. Paul Murillo.
One of the highlights of the Forum is the induction of the members of City Nutrition Cluster with the Honorable City Mayor and CNC Chairperson as the Administering Officer. Mayor Huervas announced during the Forum that Valencia City will aim for the Nutrition Honor Award and has allocated P3M for nutrition in 2015.
“Disasters should not be taken for granted. This is the reason why the City Government allocated a budget for disaster preparedness, response, prevention and mitigation, and rehabilitation and recovery. We are conducting this NiE Forum with the support from the regional NNC as part of our preparations.” City Councillor Murillo said during his speech.
The forum was attended by the members of the City Nutrition Committee, the CNC Technical Working Group and Nutrition Evaluation Team and the 31 Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Valencia City. The City Government plans to conduct the NiE training of the CNC in 2015 using their own funds.
