The Ozamiz City Nutrition Cluster underwent a three-day Training on Nutrition in Emergencies held on November 18-20, 2014 at the Bethany Gardens, Aguda, Ozamiz CityThe Ozamiz City Nutrition Cluster underwent a three-day Training on Nutrition in Emergencies held on November 18-20, 2014 at the Bethany Gardens, Aguda, Ozamiz City and facilitated by the National Nutrition Council X. The training was attended by a total of 34 participants composed of the members of the City Nutrition Cluster, staff of the City Nutrition Office and other City officials and staff.

The three-day training focused on the basic knowledge and skills in managing nutrition in emergencies. Participants were introduced to the methods and approaches of conducting Rapid Nutritional Assessment during emergencies. Emphasis was given on the use of the Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) screening being a global tool in measuring acute malnutrition in emergencies. Aside from MUAC measurement simulation, the participants also had exercises on getting the Weight-for-Height and Height measurements and IYCF in Emergencies Counselling . At the end of the three-day training, the City Nutrition Cluster Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery Plan for 2015-2016 was drafted.

 The closing program was graced by Ozamiz City Vice Mayor Nova Parojinog-Echavez, representing the Hon. Mayor Reynaldo O. Parojinog.  Also present was CNC Vice Chairperson and CHO Dr. Daniel Medina. 

An orientation on the Establishment of the Early Warning System on Food and Nutrition Security in Ozamiz City was also conducted on the third day of the training.  Ozamiz City, being an awardee of the Nutrition Honor Award was selected as one of the expansion areas of the Project. Vice Mayor Parojinog-Echavez  approved the proposal and committed to  support any undertaking of NNC aimed at assisting the City on nutrition improvement.
