26 July 2022, Cagayan de Oro City – The City of Cagayan de Oro currently vies for the 2nd Year Maintenance for the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award. To validate if they were able to maintain their outstanding performance, the National Evaluation Team visited the city last 20-21 July 2022.
Mr. Daniel G. Salunga of National Nutrition Council (NNC) led the team, with members Dr. Marivic F. Samson of NNC, and Mr. Brian Richard G. Diaz of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). The team was received by Councilor Maria Lourdes Gaane, City Health Department Head Dr. Rachel Dilla, City Nutrition Action Officer Nenita F. Rabe, and members of the City Nutrition Committee (CNC).
During the opening program, Mr. Salunga presented the overview of the activity, while CNAO Rabe presented the accomplishments of the CNC for CY 2021. Kag. Gaane delivered a message on behalf of City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” A. Uy. In her message, Kag. Gaane reiterated the city’s persistent support to the nutrition programs.
The Urban Container Household Garden in Barangay 22, this city, was also visited by the NET, being a premier good practice of the local government unit. The NET also did site visitation for the Department of Health-certified Breastfeeding Room located at the City Health Office.
After which, the bulk of the validation visit continued with the review of pertinent documents of the CNC.
The two-day validation visit concluded with the Learning Discussion session where the NET presented their initial findings, insights and recommendations to further improve the city’s performance in nutrition program management.
The City Nutrition Committee members and City Nutrition Office staff are hoping for a favorable turnout of the validation, that they will receive the 2nd Year CROWN Maintenance Award to get the chance to be a Nutrition Honor Awardee come 2023.
