(Ozamiz City Nutrition Action Officer Lelita G. Navarez, 31 August 2022) - After 2 years of no face-to-face nutrition education activities, the DOST-PINOY (Package for the Improvement of Nutrition of Young Children) Training has gradually resumed in the barangays starting August.
Seventy-three (73) participants composed of pregnant women, lactating mothers, mothers/caregivers of underweight 0-59 months preschool children from Barangays Aguada, Malaubang, Bañadero and Baybay San Roque actively participated in the 3-day training per barangay. All attendees received Certificates of Completion and tokens. The honor graduates were awarded with medals
DOST-PINOY, under the Malnutrition Reduction Program of the Department of Science and Technology, is a package of nutrition intervention to reduce the prevalence of underweight among 0-59 months old children through the complementation of feeding and nutrition education among mothers/caregivers on basic nutrition, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, maternal nutrition, meal planning, safe food preparation and vegetable gardening.
Among the resource persons were the City Nutrition Program Coordinators, Nurses/Midwives, Sanitary Inspectors, Agricultural Technologists, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Breastfeeding Angels’ Presidents.
Annually, majority of Ozamiz City barangays allot budget for DOST-PINOY Training which covers the meals and snacks, training supplies, awards and giveaways.
