27 Don Carlos NIE Training1 November 2022, Cagayan de Oro City – The Municipal Nutrition Office of Don Carlos, Bukidnon facilitated a 3-day training on Disaster Preparedness on Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) cum infant and Young Child Feeding at Tourism Hall, Lake Pinamaloy, Don Carlos Bukidnon on 10-12 October 2022 together with National Nutrition Council (NNC) X and Bukidnon Provincial Nutrition Office.

It was attended by Municipal Nutrition Cluster (MNCl) and Barangay Nutrition Cluster (BNCl) members. NNC X represented by Nutrition Officer III Sheena Marie G. Talle and Project Development Officer I Vazamija Therese A. Villasi; for the Province, District Nutrition Program Coordinator Rebecca R. Hibaya and Nutritionist-Dietitian I Rona Myrrh E. Talaman and from the Department of Health Nutritionist-Dietitian Deployment Project, ND II Liezel Joy D. Reyes.

The participants were able to learn on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and the Cluster Approach and the Nutrition in Emergencies Program, including concepts on basic nutrition, the significance of NIE, nutrition assessment, NIE interventions, and cross-cutting concerns in addition to Information Management tools. The MNCl and BNCls were also given information about the Minimum Service Package and other tools to assist them in creating their DRRM-Health-NIE Plan.

During disasters, the municipal and barangay nutrition clusters play a crucial role. They are the first to gather crucial information and address the nutritional needs of the most vulnerable groups who have been affected, thus they must constantly be ready to act in an emergency or disaster.
