Davao City – The National Nutrition Council XI conducted the Regional Launching of the 43rd Nutrition Month featuring Launching of Nutri-Carenderia on 11 July 2017 at Sutherlang Global Services Philippines, Inc. Compound at Jacinto Extension St., Davao City. It was attended by different nutrition partners, non-government organization, and staff from City Health Office and Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Davao City.
Prior to the launching, a series of interviews from different media partners like ABS-CBN, GMA TV and DXRD 711 Sonshine Radio were done and broadcasted making the people of Davao Region aware of the activity and the launching of Nutri-Carenderia.
Nutri-Carenderia has nine (9) pilot food establishments who participated in the project. Food weighing, caloric counting at the same time labeling was done by volunteer Registered Nutritionist Dietitians from NDAP and PAN Davao. This project aims to offer healthier food items on the menu and provide consumers with initial nutrition information by showing its caloric count on the menu.
The launching begins with a prayer from ECCD F1K PNC Julie Ann A. Esteban followed by welcome remarks from Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Maria Teresa L. Ungson. She explained the Nutrition Month theme which focuses on healthy eating habit of all Filipinos. In line with the theme, she highlighted the launching of Nutri-Carenderia and saying that it can be a project of BNS Onse since there are carenderias in every barangay with the help of local NDs. She encouraged also everyone to join hands and implement the program well.
Short information about the importance of Halal was given by Marilou W. Ampuan the President of Universal Islamic Foundation and Founder of Philippine Halal Trade Tourism Expo, Davao City. She mentioned that Halal is permissible, lawful, and allowable. It is a symbol of quality and wholesomeness. Halal is important and suits with the theme “Healthy diet, gawing habit-FOR LIFE!” and contributes to the promotion of Nutrition Month. According to Ms. Ampuan, Halal is good to adopt Halal since it makes us healthier mentally and physically. She also mentioned that they endorsed an Executive Order to the Davao City Government and was signed by Mayor Sara Duterte creating Davao City Halal Development Council.
The Carenderia owners who participated in the project joyfully shared their experiences and expressed their gratitude to be chosen as pilot food establishment for Nutri-Carenderia. Right after the sharing of experiences, RNPC Ungson and RNETs awarded the Certificate of Participation to the Carenderia owners.
The program ended with a Ribbon Cutting headed by RNPC Ungson and President of Philippine Halal Trade Tourism Expo Marilou W. Ampuan to officially launch the Nutri-Carenderia.
