"This kind of Workshop is new for us and we appreciate this because we have been guided and corrected with our outputs. By that, we know the right things to do..." said Mr. Danilo Baño, a participant from the Municipality of Cateel, Davao Oriental. Last February 18-21, 2014 at Baywalk Hotel, Mati City, the said City/Municipal Nutrition Planning Workshop was held and was attended by 38 participants coming from the Local Government Units of Davao Oriental.
The Province of Davao Oriental is one of the target provinces needing social protection as identified by the Cabinet Cluster on Human Development and Poverty Reduction. Apayao, Ifugao, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Negros Oriental, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Leyte, South Leyte, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Sur, and Maguindanao are also the target provinces needing social protection as identified by the Cabinet Cluster on Human Development and Poverty Reduction, and these areas are also to conduct or have already conducted a similar workshop.
Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator for National Nutrition Council XI, Dr. Maria Teresa L. Ungson gave the opening remarks and overview of the Nutrition Action in the Region and Province. She shared the nutrition situation, on-going actions, challenges and the Nutrition Program Management overview. She further encouraged and challenged the participants for improvement in order to decrease the malnutrition rate and encourage good nutrition practices in the province. The second topic for the wokshop: Setting the Outcome and Output Objective Workshop, was also explained by RNPC Ungson.
There are three topics for workshop: The Situational Analysis of the Province/City/Municipality Workshop, Setting the Outcome and Output Objective Workshop, and the Formulating the Monitoring and Evaluation plan. NO III Retsebeth M. Laquihon facilitated the workshops and all of the presentations had undergone critiquing of sample outputs and revisions. The participants are grouped with the people coming from the same LGU so that the plans and objectives be realistic as based on their LGU’s existing nutrition strengths and weaknesses.
