October 20, 2020- The National Nutrition Council XI spearheaded the conduct of the e-Learning Course on Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management in the Region. The training aims to build the capacities of the local nutrition cluster members on Nutrition in Emergencies integrated with Information Management. Specifically the course aims to; 1) develop competencies on information management including data collection, processing, analysis, visualization, and dissemination; 2) develop knowledge and skills on information management using the six (6) Nutrition Cluster Information Management tools; 3) improve skills in planning, program implementation, and 4) monitoring and evaluation of nutrition management activities and 5) guide the local nutrition clusters to formulate their Disaster Risk Reduction and Management – Health – Nutrition in Emergencies Plan in the local level .
Due to the restrictions imposed on COVID-19, the training on e-Learning Course on Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management was conducted virtually using a blended design of learning – online/live open forum and offline sessions covering six (6) weeks or a total of 12 sessions from October 20, 2020 until November 26, 2020. The National Nutrition Council XI identified 10 LGUs to be part of this long run training which belongs to the PPAN-HDPRC areas mainly Davao City, Digos City, Municipality of Asuncion, New Bataan and Magsaysay as well as Provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental and Davao de Oro.
OIC-NO III Alona Teo, Nutrition Officer II John Warry Fernandez and Nutrition Officer I Charlane Jickain facilitated the first live opening session on Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management e-Learning Course headed by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Maria Teresa L. Ungson of NNC XI. For summary of expectations of the participants to the course, facilitators/teachers and fellow students, Overview of the training course on NIE-IM and Navigating the Virtual Training Platform was discussed. The participants composed of Nutrition Action Officers, Nutrition Office Staff, Health Officers, Social Welfare Officers and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officers from identified LGUs were introduced as well as the National and Regional Facilitators during the live opening session.
