Image Immunization article26 October 2020 -- The Region-wide Measles Rubella Supplemental Immunization (MR-SIA) Activity dubbed as “Chikiting Ligtas sa dugang nga bakuna batok Tipdas ug Rubella” kicks off as part of DOH’s ongoing efforts of providing nutrition-sensitive services in the region amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Department of Health (DOH) Region 11, together with local authorities launched the region-wide Measles Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) in Davao Region. MR-SIA seeks to provide each children aged nine months to 59 months, or below five years old with vaccination against the deadly diseases. The vaccine administered will provide protection against Measles and Rubella.

On the recent data of measles cases in Davao Region as of October 4, 2020, Davao City recorded 109 cases with 2 fatalities compared to 628 cases and 10 fatalities of the same period in 2019. On the same manner, 57 cases were recorded in Davao De Oro with 0 casualty; Davao Del Norte reported 92 cases with 2 fatalities; 44 cases and 15 cases with no casualty was announced in Davao Del Sur and Davao Occidental respectively; 263 cases with 3 fatalities was observed in Davao Oriental.

Department of Health aims to immunize a total of 475,029 children in Davao Region. Among these, 72,017 are from Davao De Oro; 93,000 in Davao Del Norte ; 60,896 in Davao Del Sur, 32,530 in Davao Occidental;   59,408 and 157,178 in Davao Oriental and Davao City respectively.

This activity aims to prevent measles outbreak in the coming months, and to end re-circulation in the country. Health workers are provided with Personal Protective Equipment and trained in Infection Prevention and Control to prevent COVID-19 infections to ensure safety of the health workers, parents and children.

During the Chikiting Ligtas Immunization campaign, vaccinators mark the left pinky finger of every child to keep track of who has received the vaccine. Parents are also encouraged to visit their nearest health center for more details and clarifications regarding MR-SIA schedule and location.
