September 29, 2021- The D/CNPC XI Federation Officers and D/C/MNPCs of the Davao Region gathered virtually for a meeting last September 29, 2021. The 2nd regional virtual meeting was successfully facilitated by the National Nutrition Council XI staff and Regional Program Coordinator Dr. Maria Teresa L. Ungson.
The meeting agenda included the updates on the D/C/M/NPC status of funds of the D/C/MNPC, the approved 2021 RNC Resolutions, the issuance of the BNS ID Cards, and other matters.
D/C/MNPC President Lynette Demaisip presented the status report of the current funds of the federation and the list of active members who continually settle their accounts annually. D/C/MNPC President also discussed their concerns, ideas, and opinions on other possible resource generation activity. One major concern during the discussion is how to generate income for the federations without compromising the members' time. The Municipality Nutrition Coordinator Bhenzar Sam of Maco, Davao De Oro, suggested hosting an event wherein CPD units and registration fees would apply for the licensed participants. RNPC Ungson then advised verifying the proposed idea of MNC Sam as the process for hosting this kind of event with CPD units with NNC CO or PRC XI.
NO2 Jickain presented the following newly approved 2021 RNC Resolutions. The first RNC resolution presented was Resolution No. 4, Series of 2021, Enjoining Local Government Unit of Davao region to Organize Local Bantay Asin Task Force. Resolution No. 4, Series of 2021 highlights the need for the LGUs of the Davao region to organize a Local Bantay Asin Task Force, replicating the BATF from Provincial, City, Municipal and, Barangay levels.
The second resolution, Resolution No. 7, Series of 2021, Creation and Strengthening the Implementation of Nutrition Programs in the Local Government Units (LGUs) in line with Executive Order 138, the Mandanas-Garcia Ruling. In this resolution, NO2 Jickain highlights the creation of the Nutrition Offices in the Local Government Unit, expansion of Local Nutrition Offices through appointing Registered Nutritionist Dietitians and Barangay Nutrition Scholars; increased allowances of the BNS, as well as the local budget for the nutrition offices and staff for the proper implementation of nutrition-specific and sensitive programs upon execution of Executive Order 138.
Next Resolution presented by NO2 Jickain was Resolution No. 08, Series of 2021, Enjoining all Local Government Unit of Davao region to Organize a Local Nutrition Cluster. The resolution highlights the need for the LGUs of the Davao region to organize a Local Nutrition Cluster, replicating the Nutrition Cluster from Provincial, City, Municipal and, Barangay levels.
Lastly, NO2 Jickain presented Resolution No. 9, Series of 2021, Resolution on Nutrition Sector Support to Household Food Security through Food Resiliency in Region XI. The resolution promotes the use of local fresh produce of dark green and yellow vegetables, etc., to diversify and enhance the nutrient content of family food packs. This is also to encourage the distribution of vegetable and fruit seeds for home and community gardens that promote household and community food security and local food resiliency.
NO1 Mantua presented the information on the issuance of the BNS Identification Cards for this year. NO1 Mantua urged the officers to encourage the BNSs to participate accordingly in the data gathering. Moreover, NO1 Mantua informed the participants on the upcoming activities, plans, and events: the discussion of BNS compensations between the National Nutrition Council Central Office and the Department of Health. She also shared some updates on the BNS Kits, unliquidated BNS Travelling Allowance, as well as the upcoming Virtual Dialogue with Punong Barangays on October 4, 2021.
The meeting ended with a closing message from the BD]/C/M/NPC Federation President Lynneth Demaisip.
