October 6, 2015, Koronadal City, Philippines – The National Nutrition Council Region XII successfully conducted a five day intensive Training of Trainers on the Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars last September 14-18, 2015 at Stonewood Hotel, General Santos City. The said training was participated by 25 participants composed of Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Nutrition Program Coordinators, Nutrition Staff, Nurses, Midwife, Barangay Health Aides and representatives from the Academe.
The training was made possible through the help of the credible and erudite resource persons and facilitators namely: Ms. Leila S. Moscoso, the Nutrition and Dietetics Department Chairperson of the College of Human Ecology and Food Sciences, University of Southern Mindanao, Ms. Maria Ana D. Uy, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer of South Cotabato and the NNC XII Nutrition Program Coordinator Arceli M. Latonio with technical support staff, Ms. Risa Joy D. Bautista, Nutrition Officer II, Ms. Annalita Mae V. Flores, Nutrition Officer I and Ms. Leah Fe B. Utlang, Nutrition Officer I.
The training was organized to capacitate the knowledge of Nutrition Workers especially those who are immediate mentors and advisers of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars on how to facilitate and assist the BNSs in accomplishing their work as well as for them to understand and realized the role of BNSs in their respective LGUs.
Moreover, the participants were taught varied skills that will enhance their ability to organize and facilitate efficiently and effectively on the conduct of training among BNS in their own respective LGU. At the end of the training the participants presented their Re-entry plans and with that the NNC XII together with the LGUs around the Region, aims and hopes to have a more proficient BNSs in SOCCSKSARGEN.
