npmAs the issues of malnutrition remain to be a serious concern in the country, specifically in the region, the leadership and drive of the government in ensuring the sustainability of nutrition programs is as well inexorable. Thus, the National Nutrition Council XII conducted another set of batch on Nutrition Program Management training at Sun City Suites, General Santos City last September 6-9, 2016, which was completed by a total of 34 participants coming from the different municipalities, cities and provinces across the region.
The training aimed to capacitate local nutrition workers, particularly the Nutrition Action Officers, to put emphasis on effective planning, implementation, monitoring and sustaining nutrition programs which will also provide strategies in bridging the gap. The 4-day live-in training was divided in 8 modules facilitated by Mrs. Leila S. Moscoso, RND- Professor from the University of Southern Mindanao, Ms. Ma. Ana Uy-Provincial Nutrition Action Officer of South Cotabato, Ms. Judith Janiola-City Nutrition Action Officer of General Santos City and Ms. Apple Espino from UPLB Research Team.

As part of their output, processing had also been made after the participants were able to produce drafts of re-entry and 3-year local nutrition action plan for each of the municipality/city/province and/or their respective area, whilst, serving as their nutrition planning paradigms in the following years.
Henceforth, together with the help of local government units, these set of new trainers are regarded as “change agents” for nutrition improvement. NNC believes that they are the most valuable assets that could bring out transition in fighting the long-standing and growing problems of malnutrition. By: DANAH PEARL G. AUREL
