rnac27 October 2016-The National Nutrition Council XII holds Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City to recognize local government units, regional line agencies, barangay nutrition scholars and individuals who did exemplary performances in battling malnutrition in the region.
The Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony serves as the culminating event of the 2015 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and the Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar undertaken by the National Nutrition Council – SOCCSKSARGEN through the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team which also provided venue to recognize the winners during the Nutrition Month Activities.
Around 230 individuals attended the ceremony which is composed of some Local Chief Executives, representatives from various Regional Line Agencies, Regional Nutrition Committee members, Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team, Nutrition Action Officers and Nutrition Program Coordinators, BNS Federation presidents and this year’s awardees. Moreover, the Province of South Cotabato was conferred with the Green Banner Award in the region. The awarding ceremony was also highlighted by the presence of South Cotabato’s Vice Governor, Hon. Vicente De Jesus who received the award in behalf of Gov. Daisy Avance-Fuentes. Recipients of other awards such as the Municipal Green Banner Awardees or Outstanding Municipality in the province were also honored, to wit: Municipality of Pigcawayan (Cotabato Province), Municipality of Kiamba (Sarangani Province) and Municipality of Polomolok (South Cotabato).


The Green Banner Award further recognized the effective and efficient implementation and management of nutrition programs by the local government unit (LGU).
Ms. Junelia E. Domel of Barangay. New Iloilo,Tantangan, South Cotabato was proclaimed as the 2015 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar in the region. She received a trophy, certificate of recognition, a total cash prize of 20,000Php from NNC and token from the Department of Agriculture XII and Department of Health XII.


Ms. Juvy Lyn M. Estember, consultant of House of Representatives represented 2nd District of South Cotabato Representative, Congressman Ferdinand L. Hernandez as the keynote speaker. In his message, Ms. Estember stressed out that the event is very important in line with the objectives and goals of the council to safeguard nutritional status of the people from national and local levels. All praises and gratitude were also given credit to Barangay Nutrition Scholars who serves as front liners in the delivery of health and nutrition services to reduce incidence of hunger and malnutrition. She also said that it is not just a mere fun-filled activity but above all, to demonstrate continuous support to the plans and programs of the government in uplifting the quality of life of Filipinos.
The annual RNAC serves as an advocacy strategy to encourage local chief executives and their local nutrition committees to effectively and efficiently plan and manage their nutrition programs and sustain their gains to contribute to the improvement of the nutrition situation in the region.
