KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Sept. 19 (PIA) — On its fifth year of Search for Best Gulayan sa Barangay, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII will focus on villages with high prevalence rates of underweight preschool children.
Data from NNC XII revealed that these villages are in the municipalities of Tulunan, Makilala and Kidapawan City in North Cotabato; Kiamba, Alabel, and Maasim in Sarangani; Lake Sebu, T’boli, and Tantangan in South Cotabato; and Isulan, Esperanza, and President Quirino in Sultan Kudarat.
For the search, each Province will identify a specific village as its entry.
Spearheaded by the NNC XII, the evaluation on Sept 18 to second week of October, will be participated by the members of the Nutrition in Development Organization of Social Educators (Nutri-DOSE) in SOCCSKSARGEN, the organized media group as information arm of the council.
Winners will receive various prizes and tokens, including garden tools from the Department of Agriculture, during the regional awarding ceremony on October 26.
Search for best Gulayan sa Barangay is an initiative of the RNC thru NNC to encourage community-level vegetable production in line with the efforts to reduce poverty, hunger and malnutrition.
Aside from the Gulayan sa Barangay, NNC also conducts an annual search for the Best Gulayan sa Opisina among regional line agencies in SOCCSKSARGEN. (SJDuerme-PIA12/Nutri-DOSE)
