Koronadal City - National Nutrition Council 12 had successfully conducted the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) – Plan Implementation and Review (PIR) Workshop last March 11-12, 2015 at Casa Gemma Hotel and Restaurant, Koronadal City.
Malnutrition in any forms has been a growing problem in the region and even in the country. The National and Local Government has formulated several nutrition interventions, programs and projects just to combat the drastic increase of malnutrition cases around the country and assessment of the local PPAN Implementation was made mainly to evaluate and validate the programs which have made a great impact towards hunger and malnutrition prevention. The PPAN PIR was made then to determine whether those programs and projects were implemented as planned and if the resources were utilized efficiently.
A workshop was conducted wherein participants presented the programs and projects planned in 2014 and identified the facilitating and hindering factors that affect in implementing the said nutrition program as well their recommended actions to achieve their goal towards nutrition. The NAOs also reported their good practices that contributed to good results in mitigating malnutrition.
There were around 22 nutrition workers who actively participated in the PPAN-PIR workshop. The activity was attended by representatives from the Regional Nutrition Committee-Technical Working Group, Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers, and District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators and selected Municipal Nutrition Action Officers.
Gladys Mae S. Fernandez, NO III, presented the Updated Regional Nutrition Situation based on the 2013 FNRI Survey result as well as the 2014 OPT Plus Report. NPC Arceli M. Latonio presented the Updated PPAN 2014 – 2016 and accentuated that in order to reached our goal and to achieve the PPAN and MDG Targets she encouraged them to think out of the box and make innovative strategies to combat malnutrition in the region. “There is a great demand for camaraderie and unity among us, hands to reach out and willing hearts to extend its help”, NPC Latonio added.
