The National Nutrition Council recognized two local government units from region XII (South Cotabato Province and Municipality of Malungon) and one Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar as second runner-up for their exemplary performance in the implementation of nutrition program during the 2017 National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held at Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City on December 12, 2017.
The Province of South Cotabato was recognized as it sustained its first year maintenance as the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN). Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO) Maria Ana D. Uy accompanied by Board members, Cecil Diel and Gly Mariano Trabado together with her nutrition staff, who represented Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes received their plaque of recognition and cash prize worth 100, 000 pesos.
In an interview, PNAO Uy said that achieving such award would not have been possible without the compassionate Local Chief Executives, who prioritizes health and nutrition of the children.
Along with South Cotabato, the municipality of Malungon of Sarangani Province also bagged its second-year CROWN Award receiving a plaque of recognition and 200, 000 pesos cash award. Municipal Mayor, Hon. Ma. Theresa D. Constantino, who personally received the award with her MNAO and other MNC members, couldn’t be any happier and grateful with the utmost hopes to sustain their work and continue their commitment to address malnutrition,
The CROWN Award is presented to LGUs that have consistently shown excellent implementation of their local nutrition programs and reduction in the prevalence of undernutrition.
Meanwhile, Ms. Medy T. Repollo from Kidapawan city also bagged the much-coveted award being the second runner-up as Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar in National Level. BNS Medy received a total cash prize of 95, 000 pesos and certificates of merit and recognition.
The annual awarding ceremony pays tribute to the hardwork of local nutrition committees headed by the local chief executives assisted by their nutrition action officers and district/city nutrition program coordinators which also gives special recognition to the untiring efforts of barangay volunteers also known as Barangay Nutrition Scholars.
