SOCCSKSARGEN-Two (2) provinces of Region 12 namely, Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat Provinces, were up to craft a 3-year (2018-2020) Nutrition Action Plan through a planning workshop as part of the LGU mobilization strategy under the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022.
The first batch was conducted last January 23-25, 2018 held at Sun City Suites, General Santos City, with participants from Sarangani Province, scoping municipalities of Alabel, Kiamba, Maasim and Malapatan. The first batch was participated by a total of 48 participants with delegates from the key members of their respective Municipal Nutrition Committees such as Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Municipal Planning and Development Officer, Municipal Budget Officer,Municipal Local Government Operations Officer, Municipal Social Welfare Development Officer, Sangguniang Bayan, Municipal Agriculturist, Department of Education Partners and Non-Government Organization representatives. National Nutrition Council Regional Office invited Ms. Joji Eunice Lasalita from PPDO-Sarangani, Ms. Maria Ana D. Uy-PNAO of South Cotabato and President of NAOPA-SOCCSKSARGEN and Mr. Reginaldo T. Guillen-NO IV from NPPD as Resource Persons for the three-day planning workshop. The identified municipalities were selected based on the prevalence of stunting and wasting both in the 2016 National and Regional OPT Plus Results.
The planning workshop aims to assess the local nutrition situation of their municipalities and identify the problems that relate to the situation through formulating a comprehensive Situational Analysis that will resolve malnutrition. It also aims to enhance and formulate their municipal nutrition action plan which will lay and identify their LGU’s goals, objectives, targets, as well as the interventions and other supporting programs to address nutrition-related concerns. The participant also formulated their respective Annual Operational Plans and Annual Investment Plans that will be reflected in their Local Development Plans once approved.
Among which, all LGUs were also asked to formulate and submit their Re-entry plans which entails their next steps after the workshop. NNC Secretariat will monitor the implementation of their re-entry plans in their respective LGUs.
On the otherhand, second batch of the nutrition action planning workshop will be Sultan Kudarat Province’s turn to be held on January 30-February 1, 2018 at the Viajera Dine and Café, Koronadal City, invited municipalities are Columbio, Lutayan and Kalamansig. (DPA/AMF/AML)
