MALUNGON, SARANGANI- With the new aims of PPAN 2017-2022, which is to scale up the number of LGUs with outstanding performance in nutrition, the National Nutrition Council intensifies local mobilization for the delivery of positive nutrition outcomes. Hence, one of its strategies in achieving so is the Compendium of Actions on Nutrition (CAN).
The compendium will be a compilation of success stories and lessons learned from the implementation of nutrition actions in selected LGUs. The compendium will be used by NNC in capacitating local government units in formulating comprehensive plans of action, making informed decisions, and adapting best approaches for successful local level implementation of PPAN.
Last April 9-10, 2018, the CAN Team namely Maru Tinio, Rachelle C. Leones from ALCANZ LLC and Dianne Cornejo of NNC accompanied by NPC Latonio and NO III Flores visited the Municipality of Malungon of Sarangani Province.
The visit aimed to produce a document which will describe the municipality’s journey in achieving an exemplary performance in nutrition including the success factors and major constraints encountered along the way. The visit also involved data gathering through desk review, focus group discussion and key informant interviews with the local chief executives as well as with the other key players in nutrition.
The Municipality of Malungon was among the 11 LGUs chosen for CAN and is being noted as a Second Year CROWN Maintenance Awardee. Malungon was recognized nationwide for being an outstanding implementer of various nutrition and nutrition-related programs.
The LGU headed by their Municipal Mayor, Hon. Ma. Theresa D. Constantino presented the various programs which helped improved the nutritional status of the children in the municipality. The honorable mayor further expressed profound willingness and beyond honored in sharing their best practices to other LGUs to benchmark or replicate in the promotion of good nutrition.
Henceforth, the Municipal Mayor assures their continuous and utmost support to the nutrition program as the accomplishments has always been the consistent source of pride for the municipality. (NO II Aurel/NO III Flores)
