Koronadal City – Local Nutrition Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) is the regular and periodic collection of relevant data to determine status of food supply and food security in the municipality/city that will enable an early forecasting to be made on the basis of current information trends and will provide timely warning and interventions.

Along with the LNEWS-FNS activities, the NNC XII had conducted training on Local Nutrition Early Warning System for Data Collectors of Kiamba, Sarangani last November 27-28, 2018 at Cinco Niñas, Koronadal City. The two-day workshop were attended by a total of 17 participants coming from the five sentinel barangays (Tambilil, Poblacion, Lomuyon, Nalus, and Katubao) composed of Nutrition Action Officer (NAO), Rural Health Midwife (RHM), Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) and Barangay Health Worker (BHW).

The participants had an overview of the plans for the household survey, guidelines on interviewing, orientation on the dietary diversity questionnaire and hunger and coping strategies questionnaire. In addition, the participants also had a review on the proper weight and height taking.

Furthermore, the data collectors had a roleplaying to get familiarized with the survey tool. They also had a simulation activity at Brgy. Sto. Niño, Koronadal City for them to practice and ensure that they are ready for the actual survey.

The Local Government Unit of Kiamba was ready and excited for the new system for they know that this tool will help mitigate food insecurity among affected population and improve their nutrition situation. (RAL/NPC)
