SOCCSKSARGEN—The National Nutrition Council XII spearheaded the culmination of the 2019 Nutrition Month Celebration with the theme, “Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo…push natin ‘to!”, on the 30th of July held at Fred Ann’s Food Haus and Catering Services, Koronadal City.
The said activity was attended by various Regional Line Agencies and Barangay Nutrition Scholars of LGU Koronadal along with their City Nutrition Action Officer.
Before the program proper, the crowd was all on hyped thru Zumba dance session. Highlights include the Updates on Non-communicable diseases discussed by Ms. Ma. Estela Ilagan, Nurse V of Department of Health XII and Meal Management by Ms. Marie Jane Lihao, RND.
Ms. Ilagan emphasized that the unhealthy lifestyles, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health issues contribute the most to the disease burden and premature death of workers, to their health care costs and to decreased productivity.
Moreover, the participants had gained so much knowledge on the discussion of Meal Management. According to Ms.Lihao, proper food portions should be practiced in achieving healthy and balanced diet as best illustrated in the Pinggang Pinoy. She also gave inputs on proper meal management for patients/individuals living with diabetes and hypertension.
Additional updates on the Halal foods were also tackled by Engr. Mahdali Alonto, DOST XII's Provincial Director in South Cotabato.
The event also gave venue to launch NNC XII’s Nutrition Month contests such as the Best Kitchen garden in the workplace open to all Regional Line Agencies and Zumba Dance video contest for RNC members and all Barangay Nutrition Scholars in the region.
This year’s celebration underscores the importance of healthy lifestyle, particularly proper nutrition and physical activity which may help reduce rates of NCDs and even deaths out from chronic diseases.
While Nutrition Month is observed during July, NNC XII calls everyone for surging forward in making actions to sustain the theme’s objectives and key messages to improve overall health.
