SOCCSKSARGEN- The Regional Nutrition Committee organizes two (2) significant sub-committees during its 3rd quarter meeting held on September 20, 2019 at Family Country Hotel, General Santos City, which include the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) Team and LGU Mobilization Team. Attended by 15 members from various agencies, it was generally agreed that the same members of RNC will also compose the newly organized teams.

The PIMAM aims to locate the acutely malnourished especially those with severe and moderate acute malnutrition, and to provide the needed medical and nutritional intervention. Moreover, Regional PIMAM Team will be responsible for the following: (1) Formulate plans, procedures, and protocols to implement PIMAM policy and guidelines, (2) Provide and implement a mechanism of coordination and collaboration with LGUs and other stakeholders, and (3) support monitoring and evaluation activities. Likewise, DOH shall lead the team and co-chaired by NNC.

With the goal of zero Moderately and Severely Acute Malnutrition (MAM and SAM), RNC Chair and DOH XII Regional Director, Dr. Aristides Tan requested the members’ support to facilitate the effective and efficient PIMAM Program implementation.  

On the otherhand, Regional Mobilization Team was also organized. NPC Latonio emphasized that as part of the enabling programs of Region XII RPAN 2019-2022, the Mobilization team for LGUs is vital to achieve desired nutritional outcomes. This will  particularly target LGUs with low intensity nutrition programs. The team is set to visit selected and prioritized LGUs for advocacy, technical assistance/mentoring. (DPAurel/AMFlores/NPC)
