The National Nutrition Council XII conducted the 1st batch of the workshop on Integrating Nutrition in the PDPFP, CDP and LDIP last September 23-27, 2019 at East Asia Royale Hotel, General Santos City.
The workshop was attended by a total of one hundred seven (107) participants composed of Nutrition Action Officers, Health Officers along with their Planning, Budget and/or Agriculture Officers coming from Provincial and Municipal LGUs of South Cotabato, Cotabato Province and cities of Koronadal, General Santos and Kidapawan.
The workshop included nine (9) sessions, from discussing on why invest in nutrition; review of existing documents on Provincial/ Municipal/ City plans and budgets; formulating the nutrition situation analysis; inclusion of nutrition in the priority development challenges; crafting the PPAN-based program at the provincial and LGU level; putting together the 2020-2022 Local Nutrition Action Plan; preparing the team to advocate the case for nutrition across sectors (role play); re-entry planning; and summary and closing respectively.
The key purpose of which is to contribute to the achievement of the PPAN outcome targets by mobilizing LCEs and their LGUs to improve planning and management of local nutrition action plans and deliver nutrition results. It will also help identify key PPAs for nutrition to be part of the Local Nutrition Action Plan for the LGUs and is expected to be integrated in the Local Development and Investment Plans/Comprehensive Development Plans.
Mr. Reginaldo Guillen, NO IV-NPPD, Ms. Jana Marie Culla, NO II-NPPD, Ms. Sheena Marie Talle, NO II of NNC Region X and Ms. Rochelle Ann Flores, DMO II of DILG XII served as resource persons for the said workshop.
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) XII Regional Director, Ms. Josephine Cabrido-Leysa, CESO V, in her inspirational message, says that despite the various efforts of the government to address the malnutrition status in the country, prevalence rate is still high. She commended NNC for conducting the workshop and will include in their monitoring the integration of LNAP to the PDPFP, CDP and LDIP. Further, she encouraged everybody to start among themselves the establishment of vegetable gardening, may it be in the workplaces or even in their own households that will serve as a model to the whole community.
As an output of the 5-day workshop, the LGUs drafted their respective Local Nutrition Action Plans with proposed activities and budgets which shall be integrated to their local development plans. Part of the re-entry plan of the LGUs was for the Local Nutrition Committee to convene and finalize their local nutrition action plans.
The second batch of the workshop will be on October 7-11, 2019 which will be participated by Provinces of Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Cities of Tacurong and Cotabato City.
