SOCCSKSARGEN---The National Nutritional Council XII, through the initiative of Regional Nutrition Committee, forefronts contest for the first Best Kitchen garden in the workplace. The said contest is in line with the 2019 Nutrition Month theme, “Kumain ng wasto at maging aktibo…push natin ‘to!” which aims to promote the practice of healthy diet, increased physical activity, and reduced sedentary behavior through activities of daily living among individuals and families.
The search for the Best Kitchen garden in the workplace is open to all Regional Line Agencies. Moreover, six (6) agencies (DOLE, NCIP, DAR, DOH, BJMP and DILG) had joined and been evaluated from September through 2nd week of October.
Establishing kitchen gardens in the workplace will not only promote food security and organic produce but also allowing employees to be engaged in gardening at their spare time as a form of exercise. To add, with the pressing workloads among employees, it will also help create a healthy environment to relieve stress and achieve wellness to prevent non-communicable diseases.
Derived from the previously known “Search for Gulayan sa Barangay/Opisina”, this contest will also encourage Regional Line Agencies to utilize space efficiently of their respective office premises by growing their own source of fruits and vegetables may it be through plot gardening and containerized/vertical gardening.
Winners and all participating agencies for the said contest will be recognized during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony on 29 November 2019. (DPAurel/AMFlores/NPC)
