Kindness is the best form of humanity.” Amidst the battle everyone is facing about the COVID-19 pandemic, the spirit of “bayanihan” didn’t fail to enthrall anyone as it is one of the trademarks of being a Filipino.
People with big hearts will find their way to extend a helping hand to their community. A neighborhood in Purok 3, Brgy. Poblacion, Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat initiated by Ms. Edes B. Vijandre through their Purok President Mr. Maxian Tubio thought of doing something to help their local community coming up of what they call, “Neighborhood Kitchen”. Since the food packs which usually consist sardines, instant noodles and rice lacks nutrients, generous neighbors pitched in to feed 24 at-risk families who lost their means of income because of COVID-19. They used the kitchen owned by former Brgy. Chairman Lorraine Llavore to prepare nutritious meals which most of the vegetable were freshly picked from their backyard gardens. By this means, they can augment their neighbor’s meal and now on their fifth day.
It’s not about how much you’ve given, but it’s the benevolence to provide. Such efforts were purely priceless because these people gave what they have, not a “spare” to what they have. Their act of charity is commendable because during this time of crisis, the common response of people would be to hoard and save up for themselves and their families thinking that the end of this situation is yet unknown.
For them, it is better to share something they have than to eat abundantly knowing that their neighbors are starving and have nothing on their tables. If not all, their goal at least, is for others to emulate this noble endeavour. Hoping that puroks in barangays, in towns and cities all over the country will set up their own Neighborhood Kitchen and will help feed those families who lost their means of income because of COVID19. Truly, it’s a small act of kindness which heeds call for humanity. As they say, "walang magugutom kung lahat ay tulong-tulong".(RMF/AMVF/AML)
