antipas COTABATO PROVINCE- As the threat of COVID-19 looms, LGUs’ efforts were also inexorable not only in flattening the curve of cases but as well as in alleviating the problems to at least try to ease a bit of the burden of their respective constituents brought by the lockdown and the pandemic crisis.

In response to COVID-19, the Local Government Unit of Antipas of Cotabato Province had established Food Ration Stations (FRSs) in 101 Puroks of their 13 Barangays last April 8, 2020. Also known as the Bayanihan Sandok Project, this local initiative aims to provide access to their constituents in the grass roots level of free foods such as "CHAMPORADO, ARROZCALDO/LUGAW, and BINIGNIT", prioritizing the vulnerable groups such as the malnourished children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and pregnant women.

The advent of this initiative was because of the overwhelming donations from the LGU’s legislators (SB Antipas) to boot, the burning passion of volunteers such as the Barangay Nutrition Scholars/Health workers, Barangay Captains, purok leaders and others to extend help in their municipality.

With the mechanism, each household will have a representative to get their ration in the designated station every morning, with proper protective equipment such as wearing masks and observing social distancing.

Despite the difficulties we are facing today, the Bayanihan spirit continues to thrive among the Filipino people. This only shows that amidst this unprecedented crisis, Filipinos were able to explore the values of humanity and compassion, which certainly, what will get us through this.

Moreover, NNC urges that the on-going support for the nutrition program be continued and strengthened as this will significantly provide essential health basis in the long run. (DPA/AMF/NPC with Information from the Municipality of Antipas)
