Tutok Kainan is a nutrition strategy under National Dietary Supplementation Program of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 that aims to prevent nutrition deterioration of nutritionally vulnerable groups like pregnant women and pre-school children aged 6-23 mos who are wasted and stunted, by providing them nutritionally adequate supplementary food. Further, it is also the National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) COVID response that conforms the implementation of RA 11148.
NNC XII conducted virtual orientation on ECCD-F1K to the municipalities of Cotabato and South Cotabato Province last February 2 and 3, 2021, respectively. It was attended by the Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) and Mun. Nutrition staff. The Local Government Unit (LGU) present were the following: for Cotabato Province - Arakan, Antipas, Alamada, Aleosan, Carmen, Kabacan, Magpet, Makilala, M’lang, Midsayap, Libungan, Pikit, Pigcawayan, Pres. Roxas and Tulunan for South Cotabato Province - Banga, Lake Sebu, Norala, Polomolok, Sto. Niño, Tampakan, Tantangan and Tupi.
The virtual orientation was facilitated by NO III Flores and discussed the following topics: program’s background, goals and objectives, program components, operational details, expected support and output from the target LGUs and the roles LGU, NNC and Provincial Nutrition Coordinators (PNCs). The activity aims (1) to introduce to the LGUs the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program and the newly hired PNCs of both provinces who will oversee the implementation of the program; (2) to create venue to discuss the program and its related activities.
Consequently, the PNCs presented to the participants the master lists of the beneficiaries for the Tutok Kainan Program for comments and clarifications. To further discuss the details of the program and its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the PNCs will conduct series of coordination and consultative meeting with the Local Nutrition Committee (LNC) Chair and members per municipalities/cities.
NNC is looking forward for an effective and sound implementation of the Tutok Kainan Program with LGUs to contribute to the substantial results in achieving the PPAN 2017-2022 outcomes. (NO II Utlang/NO III Flores)
