The Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) are community-based volunteers who assist in the barangay deliver nutrition and related services. Hence, basic information related to the performance of BNS must be given for them to carry out their roles and responsibilities more effectively and efficiently.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Libungan in partnership with National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII successfully conducted a two-day BNS refresher course to the 23 BNSs of the Municipality of Libungan, held on March 9-10 at Public Market Function Hall, Libungan, Cotabato.
The refresher course aims to deepen the participants' awareness, improve the skills and abilities in accordance with their expected roles as BNS and provide technical assistance and nutrition updates for better delivery of nutrition services in the community. Included topics in the course were PPAN, BNS program, roles and functions of BNS, BNS Forms and eOPT tool.
The BNSs expressed their appreciation on the refresher course as it enlightened them on their roles, thus can now provide more quality health and nutrition services to their respective community.
The Municipal Nutrition Office of Libungan, hopes that the trained BNSs will apply their knowledge and skills acquired in the course in their respective barangays and shall contribute to the improvement of local nutrition situation. Further, they also commit to conduct series of BNC re-organization and re-activation to all barangays.
NNC will continue to coordinate and provide technical assistance to LGUs to improve the implementation of Nutrition Program. (NO II Utlang/OIC-NPC Flores)
