RDC SOCCSKSARGEN supports Implementation of OPT Interim Guidelines

SOCCSKSARGEN- The Regional Development Council of Region XII chaired by General Santos City Mayor, Hon. Ronnel Rivera approved the Regional Social Development Committee (RDSC) Resolution No. 10 series of 2021, “Requesting Local Government Units to support the Implementation of the Interim Guidelines for the conduct of Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic and other related Disasters at the LGU level”. 


The said RSDC resolution was presented and endorsed during the 72nd Regular Meeting of Regional Development Council (RDC) XII held on 25 March 2021 (Thursday) via videoconference. The virtual meeting was attended by around 75 participants with representatives from various regional government agencies including NNC XII, local government units, and development partners.  

RSDC Chair, PSR Richlie Lyndon L. Magtulis led the discussion of the resolution’s key details, emphasizing the importance of the data provided by the OPT Plus in nutrition action planning, identifying the nutritional status of pre-school children in the region and effectiveness of local nutrition program. Further, the policy being supported by the RDC covers the following activities to be done by LGUs amidst pandemic:

  • use of Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape as measuring tools for weight/height/length taking to reduce physical contact approach;
  • Measurement schedule, recording and reporting of OPT Plus, nutrition screening, growth monitoring; and promotion activities to determine method of measurement, tools for measurement, and recording and reporting tool.
  • Guide for LGUs thru a Decision tree with scenarios for the conduct of OPT plus, nutrition screening and growth monitoring

With the support from RDC XII, LGUs are as well expected to support the adoption and implementation thru issuances of ordinances at their level for appropriate action.  DILG XII is hereby requested in coordinating and facilitating the dissemination thru a Memorandum Circular to all concerned.  This resolution is also part of Regional Nutrition Committee’s increased efforts in nutrition and NNC’s strategic approach to improve OPT coverage in the region.  (NO II Aurel/OIC-NPC Flores)
