SOCCSKSARGEN-The National Nutrition Council XII has successfully conducted the Free Nutrition and Diet Counselling as part of the National Women’s Month Celebration. A total of 17 clients were accommodated satisfying their nutritional needs and concerns.
The clients were assessed thru their Vital signs, Random Blood Sugar results, Anthropometric measurements, Body Mass Index and the waist-to-hip ratio. The clients have also the privilege to know their desirable body weight (DBW), total energy requirements with the appropriate amount of food groups to consume which include fruits, vegetables, meat, rice and alternatives, milk, fats and sugars. Pinggang Pinoy was also being highlighted in counselling as the most helpful tool in helping the clients in their food preparation that is proportional according to current nutritional guidelines for different age groups. Each client received a recipe book and Pinggang Pinoy as their references in achieving effective dietary lifestyle.
It is believed that Nutrition and Diet Counselling is the first line approach and best strategy to manage various Non-Communicable Diseases. The approach provided nutrition education in meeting the clients’ health and nutrition goals which may prescribe changes in their diet and physical activity.
As the Women’s Month Celebration come to an end, this will not cease NNC on the otherhand to continue its advocacy in promoting the importance of following the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos thru the popularized version, the “10 Kumainments” --which provides key messages in improving nutritional status.
