NNC XII conducts Idol Ko Si Nanay Virtual Orientation

Idol Ko Si Nanay Learning Sessions is one of the Early Childhood Care and Development - First 1000 Days Program (ECCD-F1KD) services to complement the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program. Its key component is the conduct of nutrition education for women planning to get pregnant, pregnant and lactating women to promote improved infant and young child feeding practices, facilitated by nutrition officers and staff.

National Nutrition Council Regional Office XII conducted a virtual orientation on the Idol Ko Si Nanay Facilitator’s Guide last June 1, 2021 through Zoom meeting. This was facilitated by the Tutok Kainan Focal Persons Danah Pearl Aurel, Roselle Rentoza, and Kristine Charl Nadela for provinces Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato and South Cotabato, respectively, who also served as emcee and speakers of the orientation.

The orientation included background of ECCD-F1KD, Idol Ko Si Nanay Facilitator’s Guide, 10 Modules and 25 Learning Session topics and contents, and how to conduct these. The 40 participants included City/Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (C/MNAOs), Nutrition Coordinators, DOH-deployed Nutritionist-Dietitians, and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) from the said provinces, which are the intended users of the Idol Ko Si Nanay Facilitator’s Guide.

The said guide is a book containing step-by-step instructions for the users on how to conduct the Idol Ko Si Nanay Learning Sessions, including work plan, implementation of the learning sessions, and the 10 modules and 25 learning sessions to be conducted by the users/facilitators. Each session may not build upon each other and may be conducted based on the needs of the target audience. These sessions are to be ideally conducted before or simultaneously to the supplementation program. The Tutok Kainan Focal Persons may also provide technical assistance in the conduct of the sessions.

The Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program, to be implemented in the provinces of SOCCSKSARGEN, aims to contribute to the prevention of stunting among children 0-23 months old through complementary feeding and the utilization of related ECCD-F1KD services such as the Idol Ko Si Nanay Learning Sessions.
