The two Local Government Units (LGU) of Sarangani Province, particularly Malapatan and Maasim partnered with Corn Prawn and Goat (CPAG) Arkventures Enterprises on Supplementary Feeding Program for undernourished pre-school children. Hence, last June 4 and 10, 2021 was the launching and turn-over ceremony of dietary supplementation supplies for Malapatan and Maasim, respectively. It was participated by the Municipal Nutrition Action Officers and representatives from the local Health office and CPAG Arkventures Enterprises.

CPAG Arkventures Enterprises donated “MINGO” commodity short for Moringa (malunggay), Rice and Mongo, it is an instant supplementary food with rice and mongo as the basic ingredients which is patterned after a formula developed by the Food Nutrition and Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST) in partnership with Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC).Moreover, MINGO contains essential vitamins and minerals needed for the growing child assuring them of the nutrients needed for optimal growth and development.

The said Supplementary program will run for 180 days or six (6) months daily feeding program that provides supplementary food to children aged 6-59 months in deprived communities through a systematic and holistic system. It is a home-based feeding program as it is easier for parents to ensure the daily consumption of the child rather than having to go to the center every day. Further, the said program will benefit a total of 250 and 353 pre-school children of LGU Malapatan and Maasim, respectively. The LGUs counterpart to the program is to ensure its proper implementation by providing manpower through the Barangay-based volunteers and conduct regular program monitoring.

Everyone has an important role to play in safeguarding the child’s brighter future. In nutrition program, therefore, partnership and unified efforts with other stakeholders are the keys to attain the desired nutrition outcomes. National Nutrition Council (NNC) encourages everyone to be one of the spoons for nutrition improvement. (NO II Utlang/OIC-NPC Flores)
