SOCCSKSARGEN--- In line with the 47th Nutrition Month Celebration, the National Nutrition Council XII have contracted with Notre Dame Broadcasting Corporation-Radyo Bida, Koronadal to broadcast First 1000 days (F1KD) and stunting series. The said radio series will be heard every Wednesday in Radyo Bida-Koronadal every 12:15-12:30 noon for three weeks (July 14, 21 and 28) with replay at Radyo Bida-Kidapawan every 3:15-3:30 in the afternoon on the same day.

 

The first week will touch topics on Pregnancy (First 270 days) particularly the Pre-pregnancy preparations, Signs of Healthy Pregnancy and the Consequences of poor nutrition during pregnancy. Second week will scope the stages from Birth up to the sixth month of the child covering topics on Unang Yakap, Importance of Exclusive breastfeeding and advantages of breastmilk and consequences of non-exclusive breastfeeding from birth to six months. Lastly, the third week will tackle about the last stage of First 1000 days, which is from 6-23 months with topics on complementary feeding, Components of appropriate complementary feeding and Consequences of poor complementary feeding practices from 6 months to 2 years.

The first 1000 days of life which will start from a woman’s pregnancy until the 2nd birthday of the child is a crucial period which lays the foundation for child’s cognitive, motor and social skills and can have lifelong impact in their health and well-being. Further, stunting is one of the irreversible effects of poor nutrition and repeated bouts of infection during the First 1000 Days.

NNC XII continues to empower communities on the importance of First 1000 days and forge partnerships particularly with radio stations as one of the most effective media platform to promote good nutrition.
