The indigenous inhabitants of Sultan Kudarat Province, mainly the Manobo, make up one of the largest tribes in the province. The culture of the said tribe allows young marriages which jeopardizes the lives of the young girls to early pregnancy and further lead to delivery complications. Additionally, the average household size of each family with young mothers were around five to eight, the household head does not have a regular income thus the family  experience food insecurity.

STM is a collaborative effort from the members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) in partnership with the Provincial NCIP and DOH Office. It is a nutrition strategy with the goal of improving health and nutrition status by ensuring universal access to reproductive health services and focuses on First 1000 days services to reduce cases of stunting as well as maternal and infant deaths.

The project focuses on pregnant and lactating women in IP and GIDA communities. The project utilizes Health and Nutrition Caravan approach in bringing services nearer to the target beneficiary. Distribution of hygiene/ buntis kits to which the mothers were taught to practice proper hygiene. Meanwhile, pregnant and lactating women were provided with supplemental food packs to improve their nutritional status. Provincial Agriculture Office also provided vegetables seeds. They also held health and nutrition information drive for safe motherhood and first 1000 Days of life, COVID19 vaccination and Garantisadong Pambata activities.

Good maternal nutrition throughout pregnancy and after delivery, as well as excellent newborn, infant, and young child feeding practices and the continuity of F1KD services, lay a strong foundation for a child's physical growth, mental development, health, nutrition, and future economic productivity.
