Municipal Nutrition Action Plan determines integrated, synchronized, coordinated and focused actions for nutrition improvement, promotes sectoral, community and private sector involvement, allocates budget and other resources to achieve set objectives, ensures efficient and effective utilization of resources, prevents overlaps and duplication during program implementation, minimize negative impact of other development programs on nutrition, links nutrition with local development planning and budgeting and will guide the local nutrition committee (LNC) in the implementation of nutrition projects, assessing and evaluating efforts and generating resources.
National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region XII thru Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Retsebeth M. Laquihon, Nutrition Officer III, Annalita Mae Flores, NO II, Leah Utlang and PNFP Kristine Lorraine Madayag served as Facilitators in the conduct of Municipal Nutrition Action Planning Workshop held last November 16-17, 2021. The 2-day LNAP workshop was attended by the MNAO, HRH-ND, representative from DepEd, MSWD, MBO and MPDO. The team also visited the office of Mayor Charles Frederic Plotena for a courtesy call. RNPC Laquihon lobbied for the establishment of the Nutrition Office under the LCE’s office & creation of plantilla position for Nutrition Officer/ Nutritionist-Dietitian to be designated as MNAO/MNPC. Further she also lobbied for the integration of MNAP for 2022-2024 in the LGUs’ Annual Investment Plan and Comprehensive Development Plan. Moreover, Mayor Ploteña reiterated that the hiring of a plantilla position for Nutrition Officer was already included in the LGU’s Devolution Transition Plan and AIP.
Next steps are to include updated data needed from different offices/members of the MNC on the MNAP, insert the mission/vision and local nutritional situation, explore additional funding source for LNAP, presentation of the draft MNAP to the MNC members during meeting, issuance of the MNC Resolution adapting or approving the MNAP, designation of the full time MNAO with complementary staff (technical and admin), finalization of the MNAP 2022-2024 and integration to LGU AIP and provide NNC copy of the approved MNAP and AIP not later than December 13.
The same workshop will be conducted to the other LGUs too in 2022 and NNC shall continue to mentor support and provide technical assistance to identified low performing LGUs on nutrition to efficiently and effectively manage their nutrition program and contribute to the achievement of nutrition outcomes.
