Our battle with the Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) pandemic crisis has not yet ended. For more than two years now, we are still not back to our normal lives, and today a new variant of the COVID-19 is present.

Planning meals which include powerful immune system boosters is substantial to prevent, fight, and recover from colds, flu, and other infections and most importantly to strengthen our body’s immune system to fight off COVID-19.

Eating a variety of nutritious foods every day is the key to proper nutrition. Nutrients we get from different food groups help to strengthen our body's natural defenses to fights off viruses from entering our body.

Fruits like papaya, kiwi, and from the citrus family which includes oranges, lemons, limes, tangerines, and grapefruit; and vegetables like red bell peppers, broccoli, and spinach are rich in Vitamin C and a ton of essential nutrients, which helps increase white blood cells production to fight infections. It is also packed with numerous antioxidant properties that will give us a healthy immune system. Almonds, sunflower seeds, avocado, and dark leafy green vegetables have Vitamin E which is important in regulating and maintaining immune system function. Meats, egg, milk, cheese, are protein-rich foods that will make our muscles strong. Shellfish on the other hand like oysters, crab, lobster, and mussels are packed with zinc which is needed by our body so that our immune cells can function as intended.

Meanwhile, we should also not forget to drink 8 or more glasses of water every day to keep our bodies hydrated. Regular physical activity, getting enough sleep, and managing stress should also be our priorities to keep our immune system in shape. (NOILaurito/NOIIIFlores/RNPCLaquihon)
