National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII held its 1st NAOs cum D/CNPCs association meeting via Zoom teleconference last February 16, 2022. A total of Eighteen (18) Local Nutrition Focal Points (LNFP) from Provinces, Cities and Municipalities took part of the activity.

The virtual meeting served as an avenue for the LNFPs to be informed of the latest updates on nutrition concerns, to address occurring local issues and matters pertaining to nutrition program and related activities, and to facilitate concerns on the respective associations as well as to discuss the following agenda (1) Status on Institutionalization of Nutrition Program and Budget Tracking (2) Nutrition Resource/Capacity Mapping (3) Nutrition Database Management & Quality Check (4) MELLPI Pro Schedule (5) Association’s Updates.

During the meeting it was emphasized that LNFPs should inform the NNC XII in advance for any technical assistance needed. LNFPs were also encouraged to establish capacity map of trained personnel at the Local Government Unit (LGU). Further, it was reiterated that nutrition data should be validated and quality-checked by the LNFPs before submitting to the next administrative level. Timelines of submission from Barangay Level up to Regional Level were also reiterated among the LNFPs.

RNPC Laquihon commended all LGUs for exerting exemplary efforts that greatly contributed to the success of PPAN 2017-2022 implementation. She then briefed everyone on NNC XII's plans and activities for the year 2022, focusing on the implementation of nutrition-related activities by focusing on LGU empowerment through nutrition advocacies, technical assistance, and monitoring and evaluation. She hopes that each LGU will be able to support and participate on various regional activities. Finally, NPC Laquihon emphasized that an excellent and effective nutrition program requires a strong collaboration and partnership of the LGU, the National Government Agencies and stakeholders.

Everyone must work together to address the malnutrition challenges by ensuring that the nutrition structure is strengthened, and nutrition program implementation is scaled up through increased investment and expanded nutrition network. (LFU/AMF/RML)
