ANTIPAS, COTABATO---The Local Government of Antipas conducted a refresher course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars held on March 23-25, 2022 at the Tourism Hall, Antipas, Cotabato.  The activity was facilitated by their newly designated Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Ms. Harah Varon participated by a total of 14 Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

NNC XII represented by Nutrition Officers II Leah Fe Utlang and Danah Pearl Aurel together with HRH-ND Alexus Jane Malaluan served as Resource Persons in the said activity. The activity aims to refresh basic knowledge and skills, as well as provide other updates that are required for them to effectively perform their roles and functions. Highlights include the discussion of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition, the Barangay Nutrition Scholars Program, Review on Anthropometric Tools and Measurement, Updates on BNS Forms, Formulating the Barangay Nutrition Action Plan, Orientation on E-OPT Tool and BNS Updates and concerns. Workshop on formulating Problem Tree and hands-on activities for weight and height measurement were also incorporated to facilitate learning of the participants.

MNAO Varon expressed that this activity will only be one of the lined-up activities for nutrition programs with the goals of reducing their prevalence rates in malnutrition indicators and, likewise, scaling up the nutrition interventions of their municipality.

The Barangay Nutrition Scholars, being at the grassroot level in delivering basic nutrition services should be equipped with knowledge, core values and skills needed for effective performance of their tasks particularly in identifying, monitoring and referring of the malnourished children.
