Food safety and cleanliness are critical because it ensure the safety of the food you touch and manufacture. Consumers could become gravely ill from food poisoning and other foodborne illnesses if food safety and cleanliness are not maintained.

As part of the social preparation of Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program in the region, the NNC XII represented by the Provincial Nutrition focal Points in Sarangani Province, Katty T. Parreño, and Flora May Madrona of South Cotabato, conducted a food safety orientation for the members of the commodity suppliers in the province of Sarangani, the Alkikan Vegetable Growers Association (ALVEGA) from the municipality of Malungon.

As members of the Enhanced Partnership against Hunger and Poverty (EPHAP) in the region, the National Nutrition Council XII and the Department of Agrarian Reform Provincial Office of Sarangani collaborated on the activity as part of their ardent efforts to eliminate poverty and hunger.

The activity focuses on proper food handling techniques and various methods for preventing foodborne infections. Food safety orientation is an important aspect of the social preparation for ARBOs to grasp its importance and to give a safe and quality product to consumers in Sarangani's five municipalities given that the beneficiaries are malnourished children ages 6-23 months.  The same effort was also previously done in the 3 other provinces in the region that are also a beneficiary of the program.
