Foodborne illnesses are considered a major problem in Food safety. This is usually infectious or toxic. Mainly caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites, or chemical substances entering the body through contaminated food or water.
WHO reports that in 1998, approximately 2.2 million people died from diarrheic diseases—1.8 million of them being children. Children under 5 years of age carry 40% of the foodborne disease burden, with 125 000 deaths every year. Food safety, nutrition, and food security are inextricably linked to each other. Unsafe food creates a vicious cycle of disease and malnutrition, particularly affecting infants, young children, the elderly, and the sick.
Access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food is key to sustaining life and promoting good health. As a preparation for the implementation of the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program for North Cotabato Province, NNC Regional Office through PNFP Marie Jane Lihao, RND, initiates the conduct of food safety orientation among targeted Local Government Units and the Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organization (ARBOs) namely KISANDAL MPC from Kidapawan City and New Leon MPC from Aleosan North Cotabato.
