On May 31, 2022, the province of Sultan Kudarat launches Phase 2 of the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program in the municipality of Esperanza Sultan Kudarat. The program aims to reduce the number of malnourished children, particularly those who are stunted and wasted children aged 6-23 months, by giving quality and healthy complementary foods for a period of 180 days with a target daily supplementation of 130-200 kilocalories for 6-11 months old children and 200-300 kilocalories for children 12-23 months old respectively.
Along with the launch, dry commodities were distributed to barangays that are beneficiaries of the program, as well as food containers and utensils. Some municipal nutrition committee members, BNCs, BNS, Nutrition officers, and Rural Health Workers from the province attended the launching activity. The National Nutrition Council's Provincial Nutrition Focal Persons, Ms. Flora May Madrona, RND and Katty T. Parreño, RND assisted and graced the event.
Each LGU that has been identified as a beneficiary has signed a memorandum of understanding as a legal basis that the LGU will implement the program in accordance with the guidelines and will match any resources required for the program's successful implementation.
The DSP-TK overview was also discussed with the beneficiaries' guardians who were present at the event, and a demonstration and instruction on food preparation were also discussed and executed. Following the launch, National Nutrition Council Nutrition Staff discussed and delivered an orientation on monitoring and evaluation to the Barangay Nutrition Scholars involved.
