As of 24 January 2013, the National Nutrition Council XII completed the conduct of a one day training on WHO Child Growth Standards which initially focused on BNS from 100% of the barangays in municipalities included in the 2011 top 100 areas with high prevalence of underweight preschool children in the region selected based on 2011 OPT.

Six (6) municipalities in the two (2) provinces in region XII were included to the top 100 municipalities: Arakan and Aleosan of Cotabato Province; Lebak, Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Bagumbayan and Columbio of Sultan Kudarat Province. A total of 129 Barangay Nutrition Scholars and few Barangay Health Workers (BHW) attended the training.

After the training, NPC Latonio, acknowledged the utmost contribution of the BNS and other health workers to the improvement of the nutrition situation in the region. She then challenged all the participants to provide accurate data to ensure correct targeting and/or prioritization of targets/areas so that correct and right intervention will be identified/provided to improve the nutrition situation of their respective areas. She then ended the activity with an inspirational message to all.
