The Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program has been implemented in the province of South Cotabato since May 30, 2022. This program aims to rehabilitate and improve the nutritional status of stunted, wasted, and underweight children under two years old in the province.
Flora May M. Madrona, RND, DMO II from the National Nutrition Council Region XII travels to Surallah, Norala, and Tupi, South Cotabato, to assess the first impact of the program. In addition, the visits encourage the Nutrition Program Coordinators and the Nutrition Action Officer to diligently complete the monitoring and evaluation tool of the Tutok Kainan DSP, which serves as the foundation for the National Nutrition Council's assessment of the program's progress at the municipal level.
Upon assessing the nutritional status of the beneficiary children during the visit, it was determined that the majority of children's nutritional status had improved. However, the greatest challenge for implementers at their level is that youngsters appear to get tired of eating the same meal every week. To combat this issue, they have added soups, vegetables and fruits, eggs, milk, and even ground meat to Mingo Meals and Rice Mongo Blend.
In addition, it was decided upon during the visit that the three municipalities will showcase their finest success story involving beneficiaries to be feature in the region during the month of September. DMO II Madrona meets with the Surallah Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Chelsea Daine Mariveles, the Norala Nutrition Action Officer, Ms. Janet Neri, and the Tupi Nutrition Staff, Ms. Cherry May Espiritu.
