During this time of health crisis, strong partnership among stakeholders is a must to intensify collaborative efforts to safeguard the health and nutrition status of vulnerable groups, such as children, pregnant and lactating women, and senior citizens.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Arakan through the Municipal Nutrition Office in partnership with the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation Inc. launched “Kusina ng Kalinga” project – a Gawad Kalinga’s strategic response to address chronic hunger and malnutrition among 0-12 years old and pregnant and lactating mothers. The launching activity was held last February 22, 2022, at Barangay Kabalantian, Arakan Cotabato, it was graced by Hon. Rene V. Rubino – Municipal Mayor, Hon Jenifier A. Pangilinan – Municipal Vice Mayor, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members and Hon. Vena Mae A. Cambel, South Central Mindanao (SCM) team leader representative and Kusina ng Kalinga (KnK) Program Head Mr. Mark Lawrence Cruz with the KnK team, Gawad Kalinga (GK) Head of Cotabato Province – Hon. Ryle John Caogdan and Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST) - Food Technology Department. Moreover, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Ms. Michelle Habibun and the rest of the Municipal Nutrition Committee and Barangay Nutrition Committee chair and members and the 196 beneficiaries were also present during the activity.

SOCCSKSARGEN—NNC SOCCSKSARGEN is stepping up its nutrition advocacy activities among local government units as the first quarter of 2022 progresses . NNC XII has targeted those Top 10 LGUs with high malnutrition prevalence rates with reference on the consolidated 2021 Regional Operation Timbang Report.

As of date, the team led by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Retsebeth M. Laquihon, had already visited six (6) LGUs included in the priority areas to wit: Antipas, Cotabato (January 24), Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat (Jan. 26), Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat (Jan. 28), Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat (Feb. 14), and Aleosan, Cotabato (Feb. 21).

KORONADAL CITY---  The Local Government Unit of Koronadal City through the initiative of City Nutrition Office headed by CNAO Nancy Adalin,  conducted orientation on the Formulation of Local Nutrition Action Plan attended by 27 City Nutrition Committee (CNC) members held on February 23, 2022 at Villa Princessita, Koronadal City. The activity aims to strengthen the CNC's collaborative efforts in crafting their Local Nutrition Action Plans for 2022 and 2023-2025.

Nutrition Officers of National Nutrition Council XII represented by Ms. Leah Fe Utlang and Ms. Danah Pearl Aurel served as Resource Persons during the said activity. Among the highlights discussed were the review of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition and First 1000 days, Presentation of LGU’s nutrition situation, concepts on Nutrition Program management emphasizing LNC composition, roles and responsibilities and Orientation workshop on formulating Local Nutrition Action Plan.

National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII held its 1st NAOs cum D/CNPCs association meeting via Zoom teleconference last February 16, 2022. A total of Eighteen (18) Local Nutrition Focal Points (LNFP) from Provinces, Cities and Municipalities took part of the activity.

The virtual meeting served as an avenue for the LNFPs to be informed of the latest updates on nutrition concerns, to address occurring local issues and matters pertaining to nutrition program and related activities, and to facilitate concerns on the respective associations as well as to discuss the following agenda (1) Status on Institutionalization of Nutrition Program and Budget Tracking (2) Nutrition Resource/Capacity Mapping (3) Nutrition Database Management & Quality Check (4) MELLPI Pro Schedule (5) Association’s Updates.

The National Nutrition Council SOCCSKSARGEN Region, with one of its campaigns to increase health and nutrition awareness, adopts the new trend with her found friend Mariam, shorthand of a person who brings a lot of information, and launches the Nutri-Chika on Facebook, given that it is one of the most effective social media platforms in spreading information. Nutri-chika aims to strengthen awareness of the public about NNC, its mandate, various programs and projects, strategies to achieve optimum nutrition outcome as well the effects of good nutrition governance in the nutritional status of every individual in the society.
