Scaling-Up Regional Technical Assistance through Localized Nutrition Planning Workshop

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII is stepping up its mobilization of Local Government Units (LGUs) by providing technical assistance in the form of mentoring, coaching, monitoring, and evaluation to enable LGUs to improve and sustain their local health and nutrition situation. Last April 26-27, 2022, RNPC Retsebeth M. Laquihon, NOIII Annalita Mae Flores, and NOII Leah Utlang facilitated the conduct of the Workshop for Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) of Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat.

Present during the workshop were members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) which includes representatives from the offices of Agriculture, Social Welfare and Development, Budget, Planning and Development, Health, Nutrition, and Public Employment Service, as well as the Municipal BNS President, Day Care President, HRH-NDDP assigned and Ms. Lorelie M Resmundo, Development Management Officer of Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO) of Sultan Kudarat.

Strengthened Partnership of DAR and NNC for Tutok Kainan

Well-defined steps and process of two or more parties is a major factor in ensuring success in the delivery and implementation of one’s program. Hence, NNC and DAR Regional offices convened for the first quarter of calendar year 2022 to re-define the processes, roles and responsibilities of each agencies in the implementation of the Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TKDSP) in the Region.

The Department of Agrarian Reform, the lead agency assisting all Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organization (ARBO) in the Region facilitates the selection of a qualified supplier for the tutok kainan wet feeding commodities. Through the assistance of DAR XII, five (5) qualified ARBOs for TKDSP were identified. Each ARBOs were assessed based on its capacity to produce and deliver commodities of good quality.

Shepherding team orientation

In preparation for the upcoming Regional Nutrition Shepherding Project, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) XII spearheaded the virtual orientation for the Regional Nutrition Shepherding Team (RNST) last April 20-21, 2022, via Zoom teleconference it was participated by the RNST members from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Commission on Population (PopCom) and Save the Children.

The two-day orientation aims to orient the team on establishing and implementing the project, priming the Regional Nutrition Shepherding Team, and skills in persuasion and management of difficult situations. The discussions of the orientation focus on the following sessions: (1) Mobilization of Local Government Units for Scaled Up Nutrition Actions, (2) Key features of the Nutrition Shepherding Project (3) Prioritizing Nutrition and Local Development Planning, Investment Programming, and Budgeting (4) Mandanas-Garcia Supreme Court Ruling and EO 138 (5) Effective learning through Shepherding. Further, the team was able to select the Chair and Vice-chair of the shepherding team and planned and finalized the schedule, including the upcoming activities and nutrition shepherding.

SOCCSKSARGEN---The National Nutrition Council Region XII held its first Nutrition Literacy and Empowerment of Women Leaders and Influencers in blended mode on April 28, 2022 attended by around 95 participants composed of officers and members of various Women’s groups which include Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) Federation officer, Rural Improvement Club (RIC) ,Council of Women and Local Nutrition Focal Points. Face-to-face set-up was held at Villa Amor Hotel, Koronadal City while the online platform was held via Zoom videoconference. The webinar aims to strengthen the behavior-changing nutrition promotion opportunities by engaging and liberating the roles of women, specifically:

  • The webinar aims to raise awareness among women leaders and influencers on their roles in scaling up nutrition in the First 1000 days of life
  • To empower and mobilize women leaders and influencers to support nutrition initiatives in their respective community
  • Women leaders and influencers to lead advocacy on strengthened delivery of maternal nutrition and child health programs and services

Region XII Barangay Nutrition Scholar Federation headed by Ms. Creamhield C. Bation provided separation pay to retiree BNSs. Separation pay is the assistance given by SOCCSKSARGEN BNS Federation to BNS who will separate or retire from service. The said assistance will be availed if the member is paying the BNS dues for 3 consecutive years and has served for a minimum of 3 years continuously as BNS. Furthermore, assistance will be P200.00 per year for the number of years in service with minimum of 15 years.

Four (4) BNSs from LGU Norala, South Cotabato received separation pay upon completion of the documentary requirements stated in Rule 5.3 of the Implementing Rules & Regulations (IRR) of the Region XII BNS Federation Incorporated (RBNSF, Inc.) benefits and privileges. Documents submitted were reviewed and scanned by the Regional BNS officers.
